Strong scientific technology means a strong nation. Therefore, social contribution is focused on cultivating talents in the field of science and to Korean engineering technology development.
Award for Engineers
National Academy Engineering of Korea
ILJIN Award of The National Academy of Engineering of Korea is awarded to those who have made contribution to the improvement of engineering technology such as policy development and volunteer work for Korean engineering technology development.
By making significant contribution in national technology development such as industrial technology, industry-university cooperation, technology policy and the development of the National Academy of Engineering of Korea, selected individuals receive 50 million won annually from ILJIN Academic & Cultural Foundation.
Donation for Specialists
Research Institute of Advanced materials
With the belief that vitalization of basic engineer research and cultivation of talents would lead the development of advanced materials which will be the foundation for next industrial generation, in 1990, ILJIN established and donated “Research Institute of Advanced materials” for Seoul National University, hoping it can serve as a foundation for material industrial development in Korea.
By donating 3.5 billion won, which was considered a large sum of money at the time, ILJIN became the first public corporation which donated a research station to a university in Korea. The research station is developing advanced material technology through active joint basic research among universities and industries.
In June 1990, ILJIN became a representative corporation in industry- academic cooperation. Research Institute of Advanced materials in Seoul National University was completed to serve the purpose of vitalization of research cooperation among universities and industries and cultivation of top-level talents. This four ground level, one basement research institute built on 1,500 pyong (a measurement unit of area. 1 square meter is equal to 0.3025 pyong) area is composed of metal material unit, electronic material unit, ceramic material unit, fiber and polymer material unit, material analysis unit and operation unit. It also publishes its research, evaluation and all other research activities to the universities and corporations.
Scholarship for Students
ILJIN Academic & Cultural Foundation
A former engineer himself, Chairman Huh said “advancement in scientific technology brings a true strong nation. Engineers are the true commander in the 21st technology war.” Through various scholarship systems, ILJIN Group has sponsored engineering students and has supported the future engineers continuously.
ILJIN Academic and Cultural Foundation was founded for the purpose to find and train manpower that could contribute to the nation and society, to support the development and promotion of research and culture, and to contribute toward the advancement of Korean culture. The foundation has been providing scholarship, aiding students who are studying overseas, supporting academic research, and supporting education and academic projects for engineering students.
To be specific, ILJIN has been providing scholarship to university students with excellent grades every year. Also, due to financial scarcity in Korean components and material research field, in 2004, ILJIN provided research funds to Seoul National University.
