30 years with ILJIN
It has been almost 30 years since Sang Bok joined ILJIN. She joined ILJIN Light Metal Company in 1987 and was relocated to ILJIN Diamond in 1990 with her supervisor. When she was first relocated, there was absolutely nothing around the factory. Yet she remembers that period spent with her passionate supervisors as 'the period when the most positive changes occurred.'
Can you introduce ILJIN Diamond?
As you can tell from the company name, ILJIN Diamond creates 'industrial synthetic diamonds' and various industrial tool materials (such as PCD, PCBN, PDC, DW). We have developed 'industrial diamond' thirdly in the world and we strive to be the best industrial tool material corporate in the world.
Where is ILJIN Diamond products mainly used in?
They are used to cut, trim and manufacture almost all steel and nonferrous metal in the world.
What is your main role?
I manage factory utility equipment and air conditioning. They may not be obvious, however, in order to produce perfect 'diamonds', we cannot allow the slightest mistake. A thorough inspection is a must from the utility management.
What is the most memorable event?
Due to my work nature, we often put utilities and products in priority at workplace. The industrial diamond production equipment are large and expensive, unfortunately, it seems like we put the safety of equipment before the comfort of workers. It is difficult to let workers understand this point, and therefore, this is the most memorable memory. To be specific, the day we installed a 350 tons press machine that was brought in a trailer is the most memorable event. I think that day was the most nervous day of my life. If you ask me to do it again, well, I don't know if I can.
If you were to give an advice to the potential employees, what would you tell them?
I want to tell them to be someone with a firm foundation. You can learn the techniques, you can build up your abilities and experience, but you cannot let someone else to force the perseverance, passion to learn, humbleness on you. I also believe they are not something one 'picks up' as time goes slowly in the future.
What are your 3 best items?
01. Automated building management system (BAS-2800+). I have a big attachment to it since it was the first item applied to the factory facilities with the development company.
02. Infrared rays thermometer - Thanks to this thermometer, the temperature and humidity in the factory can be maintained!
03. An old and worn-out chair - This chair provided me a place to seat sometimes for work and sometimes for rest. Who would know what it has been through? I give it all the credits! (laughter)
