ALPINION MEDICAL SYSTEMS is a symbolic global hidden champion within ILJIN Group that proves Chairman Huh Chin Kyu’s philosophy, “we don’t hesitate on investment once decided!” Since its establishment, with constant R&D investment and countless visits around the world, ALPINION MEDICAL SYSTEMS resulted exports to more than 60 countries and 40 billion won in sales in 2013. 80% of its sales are from overseas, which shows that its competency to take rank with major global companies like GE and Siemens. Following the ultrasound diagnostic units, ALPINION successfully developed and released its first clinical HIFU system, ALPIUS 900. Ryan Hong, the team leader of International Sales, tells us the story about daily life in ALPINION.

What kind of company is ALPINION MEDICAL SYSTEMS?

We have core technologies of diagnostic ultrasound system and medical transducer, also develop and manufacture related products which are used for medical and research purpose.

What is your main job?

As a team leader, my main job is to sell our ultrasound products to Asian market. This includes conducting market research, finding potential clients, presenting our products and finally winning the contracts.

Pros and Cons of overseas sales

Sales are the core of business. Oversea sales, especially, faces numerous new challenges every time. However, the feeling of overcoming the obstacles and winning the contract is indescribable. Sometimes, I feel confused when facing those who envy me. I have to manage busier schedule than the domestic team members and have to adapt myself to unfamiliar local food and surroundings. It is not easy to explain such hardships to someone every time, and sometimes, I don’t think people believe my story.

Have your thoughts of the company changed after joining?

Honestly, I didn’t know much before joining the company. I decided to join ALPINION MEDICAL SYSTEMS due to strong recommendations from many acquaintances and people in this industry. On the first day of work, I was sure that this is a place with full of energy coming from many young employees. Now, I don’t worry about the company’s future. I’m sure that there will be bright tomorrow towards us.

What makes ALPINION MEDICAL SYSTEMS a good company?

It is a place that allows the best individuals to work with a focus. Also, due to many young employees, we can communicate great ideas freely!

What is one word when you think of ALPINION MEDICAL SYSTEMS?

‘Legendary’. We are writing new legends every day, every month, and every year.

Any word of advice to those who wish to participate in oversea sales?

One must speak English fluently and if you speak a third language, it is a big bonus. More importantly, one must think globally with an open mind. An attitude that fears no challenge is a must for an oversea sales expert.
